Tesla has revealed a new-look Model Y designed specifically for the Chinese and other Asian-Pacific markets. This marks the first significant update to the SUV since its initial launch in 2020. It’s worth noting that Tesla ended 2024 with fewer vehicle deliveries than it did in 2023, marking the company’s first year-over-year decline.
This revamped Model Y is scheduled to start deliveries as early as March in China and a few surrounding countries. However, it remains unclear when Tesla will bring this revised version to Europe and the United States. In comparison, it took around four months for Tesla to release the updated Model 3 to European and American markets following its introduction.
The changes made to the new Model Y largely mirror those implemented on the company’s Model 3 sedan last year. The front end of the SUV has become less rounded and now sports a sharper edge, similar to that of the newer Model 3. Additionally, Tesla has opted for a continuous light bar running across the front of the car, which is also seen on the Cybertruck and a prototype of the Cybercab.
In its place, traditional tail lights have been replaced with a singular light that spans the rear of the vehicle beneath a small protrusion in the hatch. Tesla claims this “cross-car lamp” represents the “first indirect reflective body panel taillight of its kind.”
The revamped Model Y has also gained an ambient light bar within the cabin, similar to the feature introduced on the new Model 3. Furthermore, it is now equipped with powered rear seats and improvements to both suspension and road noise reduction.
Despite these updates, there are no substantial changes to the vehicle’s range capabilities, and it can only achieve a slightly increased distance due to its reduced weight.
