This newly identified species is called Bathynomus vaderi and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. The reason for this unusual name is rooted in the appearance of the sea bug’s head, which bears a striking resemblance to the helmet worn by Darth Vader.
This giant sea bug is not only an astonishing find but also a testament to the vast number of unknown species that still exist beneath our oceans’ surface. Bathynomus vaderi is classified as a “supergiant,” meaning it can weigh over two pounds and reach lengths of more than a foot.
