Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse Lashes Out at SEC Chairman Gary Gensler for Targeting the Company
January 15, 2025 – 11:13
In a recent tweet, billionaire entrepreneur and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk expressed his frustration with the organization he considers to be “totally broken” and stated that they spend too much time on trivial matters when there are more pressing issues, such as actual crimes going unpunished. While this tweet was not directly related to Ripple or its ongoing legal battle with the SEC, it resonated with Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse.
In a strongly worded statement, Garlinghouse lashed out at SEC Chairman Gary Gensler over his intention to “fight until the bitter end” against Ripple. Garlinghouse expressed his disappointment in Gensler’s actions, stating that the SEC has chosen to focus on trivial matters rather than actual criminal activity.
“I am shocked and disappointed by the SEC’s decision to prioritize this lawsuit above addressing real financial crimes,” said Garlinghouse. “It is unacceptable for an organization like the SEC to use its resources to target a company like Ripple, which is committed to making significant positive change in the financial system.”
Garlinghouse also criticized Gensler personally, stating that his leadership has led to a lack of progress on addressing actual financial crimes.
“Under Chairman Gensler’s leadership, the SEC has failed to take meaningful action against real criminals. Instead, they have chosen to pursue frivolous lawsuits that do little to protect consumers or investors,” said Garlinghouse.
