Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian has denied claims that the country attempted to assassinate former U.S. President Donald Trump.
In an interview with NBC News’ Lester Holt, Pezeshkian firmly stated that “we never will” try to kill Trump or any other political figure.
This statement comes as a response to previous allegations by U.S. intelligence authorities, who claimed that Iran was exploring the possibility of an attempt on Trump’s life prior to Election Day.
Pezeshkian labeled these claims as part of a scheme to promote “Iranophobia” and stated that his country has never attempted or planned any such actions.
The denial comes at a time when tensions between the United States and Iran remain high, with many experts predicting increased conflict in the Middle East.
In related news, retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg has reiterated the need for a policy of “maximum pressure” on Iran, stating that this would be necessary to counter the threat posed by Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.
Kellogg, who served under Trump during his first term, emphasized the importance of international cooperation in imposing such sanctions and urged caution against any attempts to undermine diplomatic efforts.
As President-elect Donald Trump prepares for his second term in office, it remains to be seen how these developments will shape U.S. foreign policy towards Iran.
