The European Commission (EC) has issued a request for Elon Musk’s X to provide internal documentation regarding the company’s recommendation systems and any recent changes made to them. This development is part of a broader investigation into the company’s activities, which was initiated in 2023.
According to reports, the EC’s request is not related to allegations that Elon Musk is attempting to influence the upcoming German federal election in favor of the far-right AfD party. Germany is set to hold an election in February, and government officials have accused Musk of trying to sway public opinion through his social media platform.
Instead, the Commission’s inquiry is focused on ensuring X’s compliance with the Digital Services Act (DSA). The DSA aims to impose key obligations on online platforms operating across the European Union.
