Title: Justin Timberlake Recalls Pitching Beyoncé on ‘Single Ladies’ Male Dancer ‘SNL’ Sketch: ‘She Was Not Having It’
Justin Timberlake has opened up about his past attempt to pitch a “Single Ladies” male dancer parody sketch to none other than Beyoncé herself. During an appearance on The Daily Dish podcast, the singer and actor recalled trying to persuade Queen Bey to participate in a Saturday Night Live (SNL) sketch that would have seen him as the center of attention.
“I pitched her [the idea] and she was not having it,” Timberlake chuckled, adding that he understood her resistance. “I think she’s always been very focused on making sure women are empowered and represented in media.”
The ‘N Sync alum went on to explain that his initial proposal involved incorporating a male dancer into the iconic ‘Single Ladies’ choreography, with him as the main performer. However, it appears Beyoncé wasn’t interested in compromising her vision for the original song.
“I think she’s always been very focused on making sure women are empowered and represented in media,” Timberlake reiterates, acknowledging her perspective.
It’s worth noting that SNL has a long history of parodying popular songs with male or mixed-gender casts. Nonetheless, Justin’s experience highlights the importance of representation and diversity in the entertainment industry.
For those unaware, ‘Single Ladies’ was originally released by Beyoncé in 2008 as part of her third studio album, I Am… Sasha Fierce. The song became a massive hit and has since been certified 4x Platinum by the RIAA.
