Gabbard Says 9/11 Likely Could Have Been Prevented If Not for Intelligence ‘Stovepiping’
During her Senate Intelligence Committee hearing on Thursday, Tulsi Gabbard emphasized the importance of addressing stovepiping in the intelligence community, suggesting that it could have prevented the devastating attacks of September 11, 2001.
In her testimony, Gabbard expressed concerns about the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), stating, “I understand the desire to streamline and make changes to the ODNI. However, I am worried that we might be getting back to the same problem that we had in 2001.”
When asked by Senator Wasserman Schultz if she was concerned about returning to the pre-9/11 era, Gabbard clarified her concerns:
The problem that we had in 2001, senator, remains at the forefront of my mind. And as you said, this is exactly why the ODNI was created. Given my limited vantage point not being in this seat, I am concerned that there are still problems with stovepiping that need to be addressed.
