Threads is Getting a Dedicated Media Tab and Photo Tagging
In a bid to bolster its features and compete with rival platforms like Bluesky, Meta has announced significant updates for its social media app, Threads. According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, the app will now include a dedicated media tab, which showcases users’ posts featuring photos and videos.
This addition is a response to “a long overdue request from the community,” as stated by Mosseri. Interestingly, Bluesky has already included such a feature in its platform. Additionally, Threads will introduce photo tagging capabilities, allowing users to search for other handles when sharing a post. These tags will be visible to others, echoing Instagram’s own features.
Furthermore, the app’s markup tool, which was initially launched last week, is now available to all users worldwide. This functionality enables users to doodle on top of other people’s posts, adding another creative layer to social media engagement.
Threads has witnessed a surge in growth, reaching 320 million monthly active users, with 100 million daily returnees, as reported by Mosseri. Notably, the company recently began testing ads within the platform.
