US Justice Department says cybercrime forum allegedly affected 17 million Americans
On Thursday, an international coalition of law enforcement agencies from Australia, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Romania, Spain and the United States took down and seized two prominent hacking forums and two other related cybercriminal services. This coordinated effort aims to disrupt the proliferation of these tools in the cybercrime community.
According to a statement by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), one of the seized forums, Cracked, had over four million users who traded in cybercriminal tools and stolen information, generating around $4 million in revenue since 2018. The other forum, Nulled, had more than five million users and an annual revenue of approximately $1 million.
The DOJ also disclosed that both forums allegedly affected at least 17 million Americans, with victims being “cyberstalked,” “sextorted,” and harassed by cybercriminals using stolen login credentials and other data obtained from these platforms.
