Patti Smith Reveals Her Response to Pitching ‘Single Ladies’ Male Dancer Sketch to Beyoncé
In a recent interview, legendary singer-songwriter and artist Patti Smith shared her recollection of pitching a sketch idea to none other than Queen Bey herself, Beyoncé.
According to Smith, she tried to convince the global superstar about a potential “Saturday Night Live” (SNL) sketch featuring a male dancer performing alongside “Single Ladies,” but unfortunately, it didn’t go as smoothly as she had hoped. “I pitched this ‘SNL’ idea where I’m like, ‘Beyoncé, let’s do a sketch where the male dancer is just as fabulous as you,'” Smith said.
“I mean, can you imagine? Just one guy doing all that dancing and singing along with the song. It was genius, if I do say so myself,” she continued. However, it appears Beyoncé wasn’t as sold on the concept as Patti was. “She was not having it,” Smith laughed, chuckling at the memory.
Although the idea didn’t get the green light from Queen Bey herself, we can only imagine what a hilarious and iconic sketch that would have been.
