Costco Shopper Believes Company Should Focus on Lowering Prices Than DEI
In a surprising move, a Costco shopper expressed her disapproval of the retailer’s emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) practices, instead suggesting that the company should focus on lowering its prices.
“I would say [lowering grocery prices], yeah. Too much. Too much,” the shopper said when asked whether Costco should prioritize hiring practices with DEI objectives or reducing the cost of groceries.
The shopper’s sentiments come as a surprise, considering the nationwide backlash against diversity and inclusion programs in recent months. Facebook, McDonald’s, Walmart, Harley-Davidson, and many other companies have opted to discontinue their own DEI initiatives.
However, not everyone shares this sentiment. Other Costco patrons expressed support for the company’s DEI efforts, stating that they believe such practices are essential for creating a more inclusive environment.
“I think they need to include everybody,” said one shopper. “That’s where this planet is going. It’s truly about the whole and not the few.”
Another customer agreed, saying, “I am a huge fan of DEI. I really do think there’s a lot of ignorance out there… I don’t think it improves anybody’s life if you don’t support programs like that.”
