Delphi Murders: Convicted Killer Richard Allen Cites New Evidence in Bid to Overturn Conviction
Richard Allen, the man convicted of murdering two teenage girls on a hiking trail in Indiana five years ago, is seeking to overturn his conviction citing new evidence that has been presented during his trial.
Allen was found guilty last year of killing 14-year-old Liberty German and 13-year-old Abigail Williams, who were reported missing while biking near Delphi, Indiana. Prosecutors presented various evidence at the time, including an unspent bullet found at the crime scene that matched a firearm recovered from Allen’s home in 2022.
However, during his trial, Allen’s defense team presented expert analysis showing Allen’s unhealthy mental state after his arrest in 2022. They also highlighted inconsistencies in the State’s narrative, pointing out that L.G.’s phone was still active at 5:44 p.m., with data suggesting someone else was handling the device almost five hours later.
“The State’s narrative is impossible,” Allen’s motion states. “Someone other than Richard Allen was handling L.G.’s phone multiple times long after the State contended Mr. Allen left the scene before 4:00 p.m. on February 13, 2017.”
While prosecutors pointed to various evidence placing Allen at the crime scene, including confessions he made in prison, Allen’s defense team believes their client is innocent and that new evidence has come to light.
“It sounded identical to the voice on the recording of ‘Bridge Guy’ saying ‘down the hill,'” said expert witness and author James Cain, who has written a book about the Delphi murders. “I’m not sure you could do a scientifically valid test, but the reactions of everyone in that courtroom, or almost everyone in the courtroom, were: This is the same man.”
Allen’s attorneys did not immediately respond to inquiries from Fox News Digital.
It remains unclear what new evidence Allen’s team is relying on as part of their bid to overturn his conviction.
