In this review, I’ll be exploring the capabilities and limitations of Even Realities’ G1 smart glasses. The G1 is a unique device that offers some impressive features in its first-generation iteration, but it’s not without its flaws.
Firstly, let me say that the glasses are surprisingly good at translating text and speech. This feature alone can already make them invaluable for travelers or anyone who needs to communicate with people speaking different languages. However, this functionality is somewhat limited by the lack of voice command, which means you’ll have to rely on your phone to access most features.
Another issue I encountered was the control mechanism. The two buttons on each temple tip are cumbersome and often require multiple taps to achieve a single action. This is a major drawback considering how intuitive smart glasses should be. It’s almost as if Even Realities has prioritized the display over user experience, which may not be ideal for users who want seamless integration with their phone.
Regarding battery life, I was surprised to find that the device can last up to 1.5 days on a single charge. This is impressive, especially considering the advanced features offered by these glasses. Unfortunately, there’s no off switch, so you’ll have to keep them charged at all times or risk draining their power.
The cost of the G1 also bears mentioning. The base model costs $599, with corrective lenses adding an additional $150 and a sunglass clip costing $100 more. This puts these glasses in the same category as high-end designer frames, which may be out of reach for many users.
In conclusion, while I’m not entirely satisfied with this product, I do appreciate its potential. If Even Realities can address some of the issues mentioned above – specifically the lack of voice command and cumbersome controls – they could have a real winner on their hands.
