‘Marvel Cosmic Invasion’ is an All-New Retro-Style Beat ‘Em Up
A new pixel art beat-em-up game featuring Marvel’s most iconic characters has been revealed, and it’s coming to a platform near you. Marvel Cosmic Invasion is set to release later this year on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox consoles, and PC.
As a long-time fan of the genre, I’m thrilled to see the resurgence in popularity of pixel art beat-em-up games like Double Dragon, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. The inclusion of Marvel characters only adds to the excitement.
The game features 15 playable heroes that can be switched between mid-fight, a mechanic inspired by the Marvel vs. Capcom fighting games. Players will also have access to four-player local and online co-op multiplayer with full crossplay between all platforms.
While this isn’t the first Marvel-themed pixel art beat-em-up game – Captain America and the Avengers was released in the early 1990s for arcades, Sega Genesis, and Super Nintendo – this new release promises an updated take on the genre.
With this news, fans of retro gaming and beat-em-ups have a lot to look forward to. The lineup of Marvel Cosmic Invasion, along with recent releases like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge and upcoming titles in the same vein, is set to deliver a strong slate of games that are sure to please.
