Nigeria’s court has postponed a case against Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, until April 30, 2025, amid allegations of tax evasion and financial misconduct.
The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) filed the lawsuit in February 2025, claiming that Binance maintains a significant economic presence in Nigeria despite being registered in the Cayman Islands and having no physical office in the country. The FIRS is seeking $81.5 billion in damages for allegedly destabilizing the Nigerian currency, the naira.
According to reports, the FIRS is demanding that Binance pays corporate income taxes for 2022 and 2023, as well as a 10% annual penalty on unpaid amounts and nearly 27% interest on the outstanding tax debt.
