The Switch’s user base remains remarkably engaged, with an estimated 129 million people still playing on their consoles as of December 2024.
This staggering number highlights Nintendo’s ability to keep players invested in their hardware despite its age, entering into its eighth year since launch. It’s likely that this loyalty is being fueled by the company’s continued release of first-party games, such as Donkey Kong Returns HD and Mario Party Jamboree.
Moreover, it’s worth noting that a massive 86% of Switch owners are still using their console, indicating a significant retention rate for the platform. This level of dedication has led some to believe that Nintendo is on track to break a massive console sales record.
In terms of overall hardware sales, the company has managed to sell an impressive 150.86 million units across the Switch family. While this number may not be as high as some might have hoped for, it still puts the platform in striking distance of becoming Nintendo’s all-time best-selling console. The current holder of that title is the Nintendo DS, which peaked at 154 million units sold.
