The United States Department of Justice (DOJ) has reportedly disbanded its crypto enforcement unit, a move seen as part of the Trump administration’s regulatory shift in the digital assets space.
According to a recent report, the DOJ’s crypto enforcement unit was dismantled due to a change in policy priorities. The move follows the Trump administration’s efforts to develop clear regulatory guidelines for investors and grow the industry.
The development comes after reports that the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has also taken steps to end its “regulation by enforcement” approach, focusing on developing clearer rules for digital asset market participants.
In February, Bitcoinist reported that the SEC had downsized its special unit dedicated to crypto enforcement actions. The report noted that five sources told The New York Times that members of the special unit were reassigned to other departments within the Commission.
This development marks a significant shift in the regulatory landscape for the US digital assets space.
