Proud Boys Lose Trademark Ownership to Black Church They Vandalized
A court in Washington D.C. has ruled that the Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church (AME) should take over the trademark rights of the White supremacist group Proud Boys, following a 2020 incident where the Proud Boys vandalized the church’s property.
As reported by CBS News, Judge Tanya M. Jones Bosier ordered the transfer of the trademark ownership to the church on February 3rd. This decision also grants the church a lien on the trademark and gives it the power to block any further use or sale of licensed merchandise without their approval.
The ruling is in response to an incident that took place on December 12, 2020, when Proud Boys members attended a “stop the steal” event in Washington D.C. During this event, they vandalized the Metropolitan AME Church by climbing over a fence and destroying a Black Lives Matter sign.
