Meghan Markle’s latest video about the devastating LA wildfires has been met with skepticism from a branding expert who believes it may be an attempt to appear relatable to Generation Z.
The former royal, 41, shared a TikTok-style video on her Archewell website and social media channels in which she discusses the recent fires in Los Angeles. However, brand consultant Peter Harris has suggested that the Duchess’s efforts to connect with younger viewers by using popular internet trends may come across as “false” and “orchestrated.”
Harris told The Sun: “It feels like Meghan is trying to be relatable to Gen Z, but it’s just not genuine. It looks like an attempt to fit in rather than being a natural part of who she is. It’s like someone trying to dance TikTok-style, but clearly isn’t doing it naturally.”
He continued: “The more you try to appear cool and with-it, the less credible you become. Gen Z are not fooled by this kind of posturing. If Meghan wants to be seen as relevant to them, she needs to genuinely engage with their world rather than just trying to imitate their language and aesthetics.”
Harris’s comments come after Markle faced criticism in 2020 for her attempts to appear hip and youthful while promoting her podcast, Archewell Audio.
