Conservative House Republicans are pushing back against the proposed budget blueprint from President Donald Trump’s administration, demanding more substantial spending cuts in response to the White House’s $4 billion proposal.
In a statement, Rep. Eric Burlison (R-Mo.) criticized the plan as “a joke” and urged fellow conservatives to stand firm against what he called a “weak” attempt at fiscal responsibility.
“We can support President Trump and fight for fiscal sanity,” Burlison wrote on X, a social media platform. House hardliners, such as Rep. Chip Roy (R-Tex.), are also skeptical of the plan’s effectiveness in reducing federal spending.
The administration had initially proposed cuts of $4 billion over 10 years to the budget, but some conservative lawmakers are pushing for more significant reductions.
