OpenAI set to launch GPT-4.1 and other models as early as next week
The company may shift the timeline due to infrastructure or capacity constraints.
According to a recent report, OpenAI is preparing to release several new AI models, potentially as early as next week. The flagship release will likely be GPT-4.1 — an enhanced version of the GPT-4o multimodal model.
Sources close to the company have confirmed that OpenAI plans to release GPT-4.1 alongside smaller GPT-4.1 mini and nano versions as early as next week. Additionally, the company is expected to launch the full version of its o3 reasoning model and an o4 mini version.
This news comes after OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman announced earlier this month that the company would release the o3 and o4-mini models “in a couple of weeks.” However, it seems that the timeline has been accelerated, with insiders suggesting that OpenAI is looking to push out these updates even sooner.
The launch is part of OpenAI’s strategy to incrementally improve its AI offerings before releasing the highly-anticipated GPT-5 model later in 2025.
