The Oscars Will Finally Recognize Stunt Design in 2028
After years of campaigning for stunt performances to be acknowledged by the Academy, the long battle has finally come to a close with today’s announcement. Starting in 2028, the Academy will add a new category to honor stunt design, with nominees and winners being included as part of the awards show broadcast.
The news comes as a major victory for stunt performers, coordinators, and action designers who have put their bodies on the line to bring unforgettable moments to the screen. The new category will officially be known as the Academy Award for Achievement in Stunt Design.
Stuntmen’s Association president Jeff Wolfe expressed his elation with the news, stating that “This is a historic moment for our community… It validates the passion, innovation, creativity and hard work that goes into every fall, fight, and fireball.”
