Access to future AI models in OpenAI’s API may require a verified ID
OpenAI, the company behind the popular AI model ChatGPT, has announced that it will be implementing a new verification process for access to its most advanced AI models and capabilities. The move is aimed at ensuring the safe and responsible use of AI technology, according to OpenAI.
As part of this new “Verified Organization” program, developers will need to provide government-issued identification from one of the countries supported by OpenAI’s API in order to gain access to the more advanced AI models. This process can be completed in just a few minutes and will require a valid ID to verify an organization’s identity.
According to OpenAI, this move is necessary due to “a small minority” of developers intentionally misusing its APIs in violation of their terms of service. By implementing this verification process, the company hopes to mitigate these issues and ensure that AI technology is used safely and responsibly.
The new program will not affect all organizations, as some may not be eligible for verification. Additionally, OpenAI notes that it can only verify one organization every 90 days.
OpenAI’s CEO has emphasized the importance of ensuring the safe use of AI technology, stating that “we take our responsibility seriously to ensure that AI is both broadly accessible and used safely.”
