Title: We Live in Two 40ft Shipping Containers!
As I stepped into the cozy space, I couldn’t help but be amazed by the unconventional home we have chosen to call our own. My partner and I decided to forgo the traditional norms of buying a house and opted for something unique – two 40ft shipping containers!
We were determined to save thousands on our mortgage and make a statement with our lifestyle choice. But, as you can imagine, there are some significant downsides.
Our home is essentially an oversize box, which has been converted into a cozy abode. The king-size bed takes up most of the space in one container, while the other serves as a wet room for bathing. Yes, you read that right – no shower curtain needed here! We also have a mini kitchenette and a small seating area.
The best part? Our mortgage is virtually non-existent! It’s an incredible feeling to be debt-free and still have all the amenities we need.
However, it comes with its own set of problems. For one, we can’t exactly host big parties or gatherings – there just isn’t enough space! And trying to cook a full meal in our mini kitchen is quite the challenge (more on that later).
Another thing I’ve noticed is that we get more attention from curious neighbors and visitors than if we were living in a traditional home. It’s a bit overwhelming, to be honest!
Lastly, there are some serious issues with noise and heat insulation. As you can imagine, being inside two massive metal boxes means it gets quite hot during the day, and cold at night.
It may not be for everyone, but we’ve learned to adapt and make do with the quirks of our unique living situation.
