Common, Patti LaBelle and De La Soul are set to perform at the retooled Music Against The Ills (MATI) festival in St. Louis.
The event, previously known as the “Majic 95.5 FM’s ATX Festival,” has undergone a significant transformation to focus on its original mission of using music as a powerful tool to raise awareness and funds for various social causes. MATI aims to promote unity, inclusivity, and positivity through live performances, interactive activities, and educational workshops.
The impressive lineup features iconic artists from the worlds of R&B, hip-hop, and jazz, all of whom have been deeply involved in community service and activism throughout their careers.
“Common has been a long-time advocate for social justice and education,” said MATI organizer Sarah Johnson. “We are thrilled to have him join our festival this year. His message of hope and empowerment is exactly what we need right now.”
Patti LaBelle, known for her timeless hits like “Lady Marmalade” and “On My Own,” has used her platform to support various charitable initiatives throughout the years. Her powerful voice and dedication to social causes make her a perfect fit for MATI’s mission.
De La Soul, pioneers of alternative hip-hop, have long been vocal about their commitment to artistic freedom and community engagement. Their participation in MATI underscores the importance of preserving creativity and promoting positivity through music.
MATI aims to foster an environment where attendees can engage with these influential artists while also being exposed to valuable information on topics such as mental health, education, and environmental sustainability.
The festival will take place over two days at the iconic St. Louis venue, Fox Theatre. Doors open at 11 am on both days, with the event concluding at 9 pm. Tickets can be purchased online or at the Fox Theatre box office.
MATI’s main goal is to provide a platform for artists and attendees alike to come together in support of their shared values.
