Comcast Rolls Out A Five-Year Price Guarantee With Plenty Of Fine Print
In a move aimed at providing some stability in the ever-shifting economic landscape, Comcast has introduced a five-year pricing guarantee for new Xfinity residential customers. This offer is only applicable to 400 Mbps home internet plans bundled with one year of Xfinity Mobile Unlimited (one line), which starts at $55 monthly before taxes and fees.
However, there’s more to this deal than initially meets the eye. To be eligible for the locked-in price, customers must sign up for an Xfinity Gateway, which requires a monthly rental payment or a one-time payment of $30 if using their own modem. This additional cost adds up quickly, especially considering that the guaranteed price doesn’t cover installation fees, taxes, and other charges.
Comcast emphasizes that these supplementary costs are subject to change at any time before, during, or after the promotional period. In theory, this means the company has some flexibility to increase prices without technically raising them. It’s essential to note that this fine print might be seen as a way for Comcast to hedge its bets and maintain pricing power.
Additionally, customers who don’t enroll in paperless billing and automatic payments will incur an extra $10 monthly fee (or $8 if using a credit or debit card). This added expense can add up over time, further diminishing the perceived value of this offer.
In an official statement, Comcast’s Chief Operating Officer Steve Croney framed the price guarantee as a means to simplify the process for customers. “Our new price guarantee removes complexity,” he claimed. While this may be true from Comcast’s perspective, it’s crucial for potential customers to carefully review and understand the terms before committing to such a long-term agreement.
The offer is set to expire on June 23rd, so interested individuals should act quickly if they wish to take advantage of this deal.
