Global police operation seizes 8base ransomware gang leak site
A global police operation has successfully seized the dark web leak site of the notorious 8base ransomware gang. The takedown was conducted by a collective effort of law enforcement agencies from Europe, Japan, and the U.S. and U.K.
According to sources close to the investigation, the 8base ransomware gang had been operating on the dark web, leaking sensitive information and threatening to release it unless victims paid a hefty ransom. The group’s activities have been linked to the RansomHouse extortion group, and they have been known to target multiple sectors across the United States, including healthcare.
In a statement, Lucy Sneddon, a spokesperson for the U.K.’s National Crime Agency (NCA), confirmed the legitimacy of the takedown message. The NCA played a supportive role in the operation, but did not disclose further details.
Representatives from other participating agencies have also declined to comment on their involvement in the seizure.
