A Texas woman has been charged with assaulting a law enforcement officer in connection with an incident where she allegedly threatened FBI agents with a machete.
According to court documents, Jennifer Jesselle Perez-Rodriguez, 28, was taken into custody and charged with the offense on April 17. The incident occurred when two unmarked vehicles driven by FBI agents were traveling down Anderson Road in Houston.
Perez-Rodriguez allegedly walked into the roadway, armed with a machete, and began swinging it at the agents as they attempted to defuse the situation. Witnesses claimed that she had been brutally attacked by four individuals before seeking out her attackers with the machete.
The FBI agents activated their vehicle’s siren in an attempt to distract Perez-Rodriguez from her actions, but she refused to drop the weapon. As she continued to fail to comply with orders, one of the agents pulled out his gun and fired until she was no longer a threat.
Perez-Rodriguez was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment before being placed in custody. The FBI has not released any additional information regarding the incident or the motive behind her actions.
If convicted, Perez-Rodriguez faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a possible fine of $250,000.
