In a remarkable achievement, Google’s AI model, Gemini, has allegedly defeated the classic video game Pokémon Blue. The accomplishment was announced by Google CEO Sundar Pichai on X, stating that “What a finish! Gemini 2.5 Pro just completed Pokémon Blue!”
However, it is crucial to note that Gemini did not achieve this milestone alone. In reality, a 30-year-old software engineer unaffiliated with Google, Joel Z, created the livestream known as Gemini Plays Pokémon and was instrumental in guiding the AI model to victory.
While some may argue that Gemini’s success should be taken with a grain of salt due to its reliance on human intervention, it is undeniable that this achievement marks significant progress for AI capabilities.
