PlayStation’s Big Plan to Defy the Switch 2 Is a Wireless Fight Stick for PS5 and PC
Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced its latest move to rival Nintendo’s Switch 2, unveiling a wireless fight stick designed specifically for PlayStation 5 and PC. Dubbed “Project Defiant,” this new peripheral aims to cater to hardcore fighting game enthusiasts by offering unparalleled control and customization options.
The Project Defiant wireless fight stick boasts a typical PlayStation-centric layout, ensuring that long-time fans of the brand will feel right at home. It also comes with toolless interchangeable restrictor gates, which can be stored in a dedicated compartment when not in use. These gates will allow users to create their own unique fighting experience by adjusting the controller’s orientation.
Sony has chosen to prioritize tactile feedback and haptic resistance by incorporating mechanical switches into its buttons. This should provide a more immersive gaming experience for those who crave an authentic sense of competition. Furthermore, the stick features access to touchpad functions, much like the DualSense controller.
While the wireless design is certainly innovative, it relies on Sony’s proprietary PlayStation Link technology for low-latency connectivity. Unfortunately, this means that users will need to invest in a dedicated USB dongle or opt for a USB-C connection. The device also includes a built-in carrying case, which should provide additional convenience.
Sony has not shared any information regarding the release date of Project Defiant, but it’s confirmed to be launching in 2026.
