Gov Ball 2025: Recap & Best Moments
The 13th Governors Ball festival has come to a close, and it’s safe to say that this year’s iteration will be remembered for a long time. Despite some weather-related hiccups, the weekend delivered a diverse and balanced lineup, showcasing breakthrough acts and returning favorites.
Mannequin Pussy Brings the Fury
Mannequin Pussy kicked off their mid-day set by announcing their intentions: “We’re gonna play two kinda-pop songs,” frontwoman Missy Dabice warned the crowd, “and then we’re gonna get real f**king rowdy.” And rowdy they got, delivering a performance that was both beautiful and brutal.
T-Pain Dresses for the Occasion
Veteran singer/rapper T-Pain turned up at Gov Ball looking refined, donning a black tuxedo with red trim to match his shoes. But don’t let the attire fool you – he brought the party to the main stage with an impressive set that included a crowd-participation number set to Mozart’s “Rondo Alla Turca.”
Mk.Gee Gets Stormy
The inclement weather would wait for Saturday, but on Friday, Mk.Gee brought the storm on stage with gale-force guitar riffs, synthesizers, and liberal use of laser sound effects. Unexpectedly, they borrowed a few bass pops and drum slaps from ’80s funk band Cameo’s 1986 hit “Candy,” which seamlessly merged into their own song “Two Star & The Dream Police.”
Benson Boone Flips Off the Stage
It was Benson Boone who stole the show on Saturday. He not only impressed with his performance but also took things to new heights by flipping off the stage, a moment that will surely go down in Gov Ball history.
RAYE Sings in the Shower
In an unexpected turn of events, RAYE asked her audience if anyone likes singing in the shower. The overwhelmingly positive response led her to explain why she and many others love doing so – it’s all about the reverb effect created by the enclosed space. To illustrate her point, she turned up the reverb on her mic and launched into a heavenly rendition of “Five Star Hotels.”
Hozier Triumphs Over Adversity
Despite struggling with a nasty virus that had affected much of his band earlier in the week, Hozier put on an incredible show, defying expectations. He even surprised fans by walking off the stage for a stunning acoustic solo performance of “Cherry Wine.”
