YouTube TV is letting some subscribers hold off that price hike
In a surprising move, YouTube TV has announced that it will allow some subscribers to avoid the impending price increase of $10, which would bring the monthly cost to $82.99 starting January 13th for existing members.
As reported by 9to5Google and confirmed by Reddit users, some subscribers who tried to cancel their subscriptions received an offer to keep paying the current rate of $72.99 for six more months. This means that these users will not be immediately affected by the price hike announced by YouTube TV.
To take advantage of this offer, it appears that users must log in to their YouTube TV account using a web browser on their computer and navigate to Settings > Membership > Manage before attempting to cancel their subscription. Some subscribers have reported that trying to cancel through other means, such as the mobile app or phone number, did not yield the same result.
It’s worth noting that this offer is not available to all subscribers, and some users have reported that they were unable to receive the price lock extension. However, it appears that a significant number of users are being offered this option.
YouTube TV’s decision to allow some users to hold off on the price hike may be a strategic move to retain customers who would otherwise cancel their subscriptions in response to the increase. With streaming services like YouTube TV facing increased competition and scrutiny over rising costs, it’s possible that the company is trying to maintain a strong user base by giving loyal customers a break.
As of this morning, Reddit users continue to report receiving the offer to extend their subscription at the current rate. It remains to be seen how long this promotion will last or if it will be extended to all subscribers in the future.
