UFC Called Out For Not Cutting Popular Heavyweight Amidst Roster Purge
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has been busy cutting ties with fighters amidst the ongoing roster purge. Recently, we’ve seen big names like Jairzinho Rozenstruik get released after a prolonged losing streak. It’s difficult not to notice that another fighter, Tai Tuivasa, remains on the roster despite an equally poor run of form.
Tuivasa has lost his last three fights in the Octagon and hasn’t won a fight in nearly three years. His recent performance against Sergey Pavlovich was particularly lackluster, with many fans questioning the quality of the bout. So why is he still employed by the UFC while Rozenstruik has been released?
There are two possible reasons for Tuivasa’s continued presence on the roster. Firstly, it’s possible that his contract hasn’t yet expired and the promotion hasn’t decided to terminate it. However, once his deal does come up for renewal, fans will be eager to see him let go if he continues his losing ways.
Secondly, and more importantly, Tuivasa is an extremely popular fighter with a unique fighting style that resonates with fans worldwide. He’s known for his high-energy performances and has managed to score explosive knockouts over notable opponents like Stefan Struve, Greg Hardy, Augusto Sakai, and Derrick Lewis.
In contrast, Rozenstruik’s recent performance against Sergey Pavlovich was widely panned by fans and the UFC itself, with President Dana White describing it as “horrible.” It’s understandable why he would be released given his lack of progress in his last few fights.
However, fans have a point if they question Tuivasa’s continued presence on the roster. After all, Rozenstruik and Tuivasa fought relatively recently, and the former won that bout. Despite this, Tuivasa is still considered more marketable due to his exciting fighting style and endearing personality.
Tuivasa may also have an advantage in terms of age, being only 31 years old while Rozenstruik is a veteran at 36. If fans are truly seeking justice, they will be appeased if Tuivasa loses again or when his contract expires and he’s subsequently released from the UFC.
