The U.S. Department of Education has announced a major overhaul of its taxpayer-funded grant programs, cutting $600 million in funds previously dedicated to promoting divisive ideologies and race-based training for teachers.
According to the Department’s announcement, these cancelled grants included “teacher training grants” that were found to be “implicitly and explicitly based on race.” The move is part of President Donald Trump’s administration’s efforts to reform the department and eliminate programs that promote left-wing agendas.
The decision has been met with approval from some quarters. Chris Rufo, a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, praised the move, stating that it was time “to shut it all down” and focus on more essential educational initiatives.
Similarly, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.), chairwoman of the House Committee on Education and Labor, expressed her support for the decision on social media.
The Ed Department’s announcement comes as part of a broader effort to reform education policy in the United States. President Trump has been vocal about his intention to abolish the department altogether, allowing individual states to make their own decisions regarding education.
The move is expected to be met with opposition from liberal educators and advocacy groups who have long pushed for increased government involvement in education and the promotion of left-wing ideologies in schools.
As reported by Fox News Digital, the Department’s announcement follows an order from President Trump last week directing all 50 state education departments to remove Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies within 14 days or face the loss of federal funding.
It is clear that this administration is committed to promoting a more inclusive and equitable educational system.
