James Gunn Says ‘Get Off Matt’s Nuts,’ ‘The Batman’ Sequel Will Happen When It Happens
DC Studios head James Gunn has addressed the frustration and anxiety surrounding The Batman sequel, bluntly telling fans to “get off Matt’s nuts” while sharing his thoughts on the matter.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn expressed his annoyance towards the constant barrage of questions regarding the sequel’s timeline. “Listen, we’re supposed to get a script in June,” he stated. “I hope that happens. We feel really good about it.” However, he emphasized the importance of giving Matt Reeves, the director and writer of The Batman, the space he needs to complete his work without pressure from fans.
Gunn also added, “People should get off Matt’s nuts because it’s like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it. That’s just the way it is. He doesn’t owe you something because you like his movie. I mean, you like his movie because of Matt.”
The DC Studios head also touched on the original plans for The Penguin origin story series, which has now taken a backseat in favor of other projects. “Getting a whole show in between to dig into that villain origin story was great even if it took place while Bats was maybe spending time with Selina Kyle over in Blüdhaven.”
As fans eagerly await any updates on the highly anticipated sequel, Gunn’s message is clear: Matt Reeves will not be rushed or pressured into delivering a subpar product. The DC Studios head has been vocal about his commitment to quality over speed, and it seems that stance is being applied here.
Gunn’s comments come as he also discussed the difficulties of working in the entertainment industry during an interview with Entertainment Weekly.
