Perplexity’s AI-Powered Browser Opens Up to Select Windows Users
In a recent development, Perplexity has announced that its AI-powered browser, Comet, is set to open up to select Windows users. This comes after the company’s CEO, Aravind Srinivas, revealed in an X post that the Windows build of Comet is ready and has already sent out invites to early testers.
As a reminder, Perplexity initially launched a beta version of Comet exclusively for Mac users running Apple Silicon in May. The intelligent browser boasts a range of innovative features, including the ability to ask it questions, check shopping carts for discounts, dig up unanswered emails, and even try on virtual clothing using a photo of oneself.
Although no official release date has been set, Srinivas hinted at an upcoming debut during a podcast interview earlier this month. Currently, Comet is only offering a waitlist for interested users, who are eagerly awaiting the browser’s arrival.
Despite the excitement surrounding Comet, some controversy has also arisen. In a previous podcast interview, Srinivas stated that Perplexity would use Comet to gather data even outside of the app to better understand users. However, he later clarified on X that this comment was taken out of context and emphasized that every user will have the option to opt-out of targeted ads.
When Comet is finally released, it will face stiff competition from other AI-powered browsers like Opera Neon and offerings from Google and OpenAI.
