Vitalik Buterin Sounds the Alarm on Sam Altman’s World
Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has sounded a warning about Sam Altman’s digital identity project, Worldcoin, stating that its one-human-one-ID model poses a threat to the fundamental pseudonymity of crypto culture.
Worldcoin, formerly known as Worldcoin, claims over 13 million verified “unique humans” through its Orb-based iris-scanning technology. The project rewards users with a crypto token called WLD in exchange for biometric verification.
While Buterin acknowledges the technical merits of World’s system, which relies on zero-knowledge (ZK) proofs to preserve privacy, he believes the broader implications could be detrimental.
In a recent tweet, Buterin emphasized the importance of pluralistic identity systems.
