Title: Avenga: Europe Needs Own Car Software or It Will Become Chinese Colony
Europe is in dire need of its own car software to remain competitive and avoid becoming a colony of the US or China, warns Ludovic Gaudé, CEO of Avenga. The company aims to provide European-led car software development services to help OEMs stay ahead in the rapidly changing automotive landscape.
The automotive industry is undergoing a significant transformation with the rise of Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs). In-house software development has become increasingly crucial for car manufacturers as screens become more prominent, and new technologies emerge. While some European companies like Volkswagen have made attempts at developing their own software, they have struggled to keep up with industry giants.
Gaudé emphasized that Avenga is a pure software company, not a hardware manufacturer. “We are an aggregate of 12 companies aimed at building one of the largest software development organizations in Europe,” he explained.
The CEO highlighted that European automakers already have some positive developments underway. For instance, cameras on production lines can detect manufacturing defects and provide preventative maintenance to fix them before vehicles are released for sale. Avenga is also assisting Skoda with mobile phone-based keyless entry systems and over-the-air software updates.
However, Avenga’s primary goal is to help European OEMs catch up with the likes of Tesla and Chinese companies like Xiaomi, which have been faster to adapt to SDV technology. These firms are offering Porsche-like performance at a much lower cost, posing a significant threat to European brands.
Avenga hopes to contribute to the development of safer, more connected cars through AI-powered solutions. For example, the company is exploring ways for fans to engage with McLaren’s F1 strategy in real-time using Large Language Models and historical data from the FIA (International Automobile Federation).
