Title: Becoming Led Zeppelin’ Directors Share the Story of the Rock Doc’s Uphill Battle
As the directors of ‘Becoming Led Zeppelin,’ Bernard MacMahon and James D. Stern, embarked on their journey to tell the untold story of one of rock music’s most iconic bands, they knew that navigating the challenges would be a monumental task.
“We wanted to do something different,” MacMahon shared in an interview with Billboard. “I think what we’ve done is focus on the early days and the formative years of Led Zeppelin. We decided not to do a traditional origin story, where you start at the beginning and tell the whole tale.”
Instead, MacMahon and Stern chose to dive deep into the band’s genesis, exploring the intricate web of relationships that fostered their growth, and the struggles they faced in achieving recognition.
“We wanted to get in touch with the raw, unbridled energy of those early years,” Stern explained. “We didn’t want to rehash the same old stories that people have heard before. We’re not interested in telling the whole story; we’re only focusing on one part.”
In doing so, ‘Becoming Led Zeppelin’ takes a refreshing approach by not being beholden to tell the entire tale of the band’s history.
