BNB Chain has successfully activated its Maxwell hardfork, a major milestone in the network’s ongoing efforts to optimize its performance and scalability. This significant upgrade reduces the block time from 1.5 seconds to an astonishing 0.75 seconds, marking a notable shift towards faster transactions and enhanced overall user experience.
The implementation of this new block time interval is a direct result of three BNB Evolution Proposals (BEPs) – BEP-524, BEP-563, and BEP-564. Each proposal aims to tackle specific issues within the network, ensuring seamless interactions between validators and nodes.
For developers, the 0.75-second block interval will necessitate updates to their applications. In order for dApps (decentralized apps) to function optimally under these new parameters, adjustments will be required to synchronize with the faster block timing. This might prompt some initial hiccups or bugs but is necessary for a harmonious transition.
To accommodate this change, validators have had their gas reduced by half, from 70 million to 35 million, thereby fostering more efficient and environmentally friendly operations. With these optimizations, the network can now host fast-paced applications that prioritize speed and quick transactions.
