These May Be the First Leaked Images of Meta’s $1,000-Ish AR Glasses
Time is of the essence for Meta and Zuck if they really want to own our faces as the next computing battleground.
Meta has taken one step closer to releasing AR smart glasses with built-in displays after leaked images and videos surfaced online, which claim to be of their new “Meta Ceres” (codenamed “Meta Hypernova”) AR glasses.
A Twitter user named @Lunayian shared several images and videos of the alleged Meta Ceres smart glasses and its corresponding electromyography (EMG) wristband controller. The leaked media appears to show frames that are slimmer and more stylish, as well as a refined and subtle wristband controller compared to their previous Orion prototype.
The design is reminiscent of Ray-Ban Meta AI smart glasses, and the EMG band resembles a Whoop fitness band. It is being claimed that Ceres could be Meta’s first pair of AR smart glasses capable of replacing – or more likely semi-replacing – your phone.
One of the most notable features showcased by @Lunayian is the ability to capture images and video through touch-sensitive panels on the temples of Celeste. A short video also references a minigame called “Meta Hypernova,” suggesting that users may be able to gameâjust a little bit–on their AR glasses.
The main goal for Meta appears to be releasing AR smart glasses that allow users to open multiple apps at once, similar to their previous Orion demo. The secondary goal is reportedly bringing the price down to something people are willing to pay. According to Bloomberg, Meta is targeting around $1,000 for its first AR glasses.
