Geneva Summit: Activists Slam China, Iran, and Russia Amid Human Rights Concerns
The 2025 Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy has concluded, with human rights activists and critics denouncing several nations for their egregious human rights violations. The event saw impassioned speeches from notable figures like Garry Kasparov, a former world chess champion and outspoken critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
During the summit, speakers criticized China, Iran, and Russia for their persistent disregard for human rights and fundamental freedoms. In his address, Kasparov slammed Russia, stating that “the rot runs so deep” within the United Nations (UN) that it may be necessary to replace the institution rather than attempting reforms.
The summit also saw Iranian Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi demand action against the Islamic Republic regime, emphasizing that its removal is the sole means to address the issues created by the regime. He emphasized that the struggle for women’s freedom in Iran extends beyond mere restrictions on clothing choices and emphasizes reclaiming equality and their country.
