A devastating new study has revealed the catastrophic consequences of recent cuts to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funding. According to the researchers’ findings, if current trends continue, a staggering 14 million people could lose their lives over the next five years.
The analysis, published in The Lancet, reveals that USAID’s life-saving efforts have saved an estimated 91 million lives globally since 2001. However, with drastic cuts enforced by Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), the study forecasts a grim future for countless individuals worldwide.
Researchers from multiple institutions collaborated on this groundbreaking research. They analyzed data from over 130 countries to estimate that USAID’s support has been instrumental in reducing mortality rates in some of the world’s most vulnerable regions.
The authors of the study emphasized that their findings illustrate the dire need for an immediate reversal of the funding cuts, stating that unless a drastic change occurs, such catastrophic death tolls could become a reality by 2030.
