As I reflect on my experience with the Fujifilm X100VI, I’m struck by a harsh reality – new gear won’t revitalize your passion for photography. In fact, it may not be necessary at all.
The X100VI boasts improved weather resistance and a slightly higher resolution than its predecessors, but these enhancements barely made a noticeable difference in my work. I found myself stuck in a creative rut, taking the same photos and editing them in the same way as before. It wasn’t until I put down the new camera and picked up an older model, the X100F, that I rekindled my passion for photography.
The truth is, cameras are just tools – and the best tool for the job may already be in your hands. I wasted €1,799 ($1,599) on a lesson I could have learned earlier: don’t rely solely on new gear to boost your creativity.
If you’re struggling with a creative block or considering upgrading to the X100VI, take a step back and re-examine what drives your passion for photography in the first place. Stop fixating on technicalities and sharpness, and instead focus on embracing imperfection and experimentation.
Ultimately, it’s not about the camera – it’s about you as a photographer.
