Fans took to social media platforms, including TikTok and Reddit, to express their disappointment and frustration with the non-functional CDs. Many attempted to play the translucent disc only to be met with errors or silence. The situation has left a sour taste in the mouths of many Lorde enthusiasts.
According to reports, multiple fans have been unable to get the CD to work on various devices, including car CD players and home stereos. One user shared a video attempting to play the disc on their car stereo, stating that it didn’t register at all. Another attempted to test another CD in the same player and was successful.
One theory has emerged suggesting that the lack of a printed label layer on the clear CD may be causing confusion for older optical sensors used by some CD players, thus preventing them from recognizing the disc.
