Ripple Reshapes XRP Strategy with Escrow Shake-Up and EVM Sidechain Launch
Ripple Labs has undergone a significant transformation in its XRP strategy, marked by the unlocking of approximately 400 million XRP from escrow. This move, worth around $876 million at current prices, was tracked by blockchain observer Whale Alert.
In a stark departure from its long-standing approach, Ripple’s previous release strategy involved releasing one billion tokens each month to maintain a stable supply of XRP. However, the company has now opted for an internal movement of the same digital asset before executing actual escrow releases. This shift in direction is notable and suggests the company may be exploring alternative ways to manage its digital assets.
A further anomaly was observed with the company’s most recent 500 million XRP unlock, which was split into two separate batches of 300 million and 200 million tokens, respectively. Both the altered escrow process and this unexpected token release have sparked speculation about Ripple’s potential future plans.
