**Tron Wallet Tied to Darknet and Ransomware Gets Hit With US Sanctions**
In a significant move, the United States Department of the Treasury has imposed sanctions on a Tron cryptocurrency wallet address tied to the Aeza Group. The latter is a Russian internet infrastructure firm allegedly involved in providing bulletproof hosting (BPH) services to cybercriminal groups.
According to the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), the sanctioned Tron address facilitates transactions linked to ransomware attacks, illegal drug markets, and the compromise of sensitive US information.
The Treasury Department highlighted that BPH service providers, such as Aeza Group, sell access to specialized servers and other computer infrastructure designed to help cybercriminals evade detection and resist law enforcement attempts to disrupt their malicious activities.
As a result, the US government has taken action by adding four individuals identified as key Aeza members to its Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list. Furthermore, the OFAC has also included four affiliated entities on this list.
According to blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis, the Tron-based wallet associated with Aeza reportedly received over $350,000 in digital assets, which were subsequently converted to fiat using various exchanges.
This significant development marks a shift in strategy by the US government, targeting the broader technical ecosystem that enables ransomware groups to operate globally.
