Dormant Ethereum Wallets Quietly Transfer $2.9M in ETH After 9 Years
In a recent surprise move, dormant Ethereum wallets “0x27” and “0x7f1619” have awakened from their years-long slumber to transfer an astonishing $2.9 million in ETH over the course of just two hours. The transactions occurred on July 8, 2025.
According to Arkham Intelligence, wallet “0x7f1619” made multiple transfers, sending a total of 1,140 ETH. This significant move is particularly striking given that the wallets had remained inactive for an astonishing 3,630 days – nearly nine years and three months since Ethereum’s launch in July 2015.
The transferred funds were sent to address “0xdd006a,” marking the first recorded movement from these dormant wallets. It is worth noting that this sudden activity occurred shortly after Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade, which aimed to improve scalability and support for smart accounts.
The news comes amidst a larger trend of reactivated wallets being observed across various blockchain platforms. In 2024, multiple Satoshi-era Bitcoin wallets transferred funds valued at $44 million. Similarly, in July 2025, dormant Bitcoin wallets that had been inactive for over 14 years began to move billions in BTC, signaling a growing pattern.
In other related news, US government ETH transfer activity has also gained attention after it moved 86.56 ETH worth approximately $200,000 from assets seized in 2022 from Chase Senecal, an individual accused of NFT scams and hacking cases.
