London Blockchain Conference Faces Speaker Exodus Amid Controversy
The London Blockchain Conference is facing a crisis of confidence, with multiple speakers withdrawing their involvement in recent days. The event, scheduled to take place in October, has been plagued by controversy surrounding its association with Calvin Ayre, the principal financial backer of Craig Wright’s BSV (Bitcoin SV) blockchain project.
In the past seven days alone, three high-profile speakers have pulled out of the conference, citing concerns over their involvement with the event. These individuals include Barnali Biswal, CEO of Hilbert Capital, and Ray Dillet, Head of Financial Institutions at Bitwise Asset Management.
Furthermore, David Palmer, Chief Product Officer at Vodafone, has also reportedly been removed from the speaker lineup, allegedly due to his lack of awareness regarding Ayre’s dubious past.
The sudden exodus of speakers can be attributed to a growing campaign informing them about the ties between the conference and Ayre, who is known for his shady business dealings. Specifically, Ayre pleaded guilty to violating the federal Wire Act and has been linked to a history of questionable ethical practices.
It seems that this effort to educate speakers has had the desired effect, with at least three withdrawals in the past week. However, it remains uncertain whether these developments will be enough to save the conference from further embarrassment.
