Belkin Kills Wemo Smart Home Support
In a surprising move, Belkin has announced that it will be discontinuing support for most of its Wemo smart home lineup. As of January 31st, 2026, any devices still relying on the Wemo cloud will cease to function with their intelligent features, leaving users without remote access or compatibility with voice assistants like Google Home and Alexa.
The decision was made quietly via a customer email update at the end of last week, citing that this move allows Belkin to “focus resources” elsewhere within its business. It is unclear whether Wemo will continue to support some devices that are compatible with Apple’s HomeKit technology.
However, it seems that only 8 out of the 27 non-Thread Wemo devices will be compatible with HomeKit, and users would need an Apple TV or HomePod in conjunction with an iOS device to configure their Wemo gear. Unfortunately, those without a HomeKit setup will not have the option to migrate to this system after the deadline.
It is important to note that Belkin has stated it will continue to support its Wemo Thread-based devices, which include the WLS0503, WSC010, WSP100, and WDC010. However, a clarification from Belkin is needed regarding the WDC010 device, as it uses dual-band Wi-Fi, not Thread technology.
As a result of this decision, non-HomeKit compatible devices will be effectively rendered useless, a harsh reality that has become all too familiar in the smart home space.
